Every year on the 7th April the World Health Organisation (WHO) celebrate World Health Day. It’s a brilliant event, designed to promote awareness of a particular theme through international and local events. The theme of this year’s World Health Day is Food Safety and The Sticker Factory think it’s a fantastic way to get children, and everybody, involved in thinking about proper food care and good nutrition.
The theme this year aims to increase knowledge of the importance of correct food storage and cooking as well as addressing other threats to food production, distribution and consumption, including the use of pesticides and the environmental impact of our food choices. It’s a great way to promote food safety and introduce children to some of the concepts of caring for the environment and preventing disease.
WHO work with a number of organisations and charities to promote healthy living and have some brilliant posters, resources, and information on food safety available on their website in a number of different languages. Scholastic also have a great range of resources for the classroom, including many on nutrition and health in general, have a look at them here.
