We love the gentle bumble of a bee in the garden and a spoonful of honey on a crumpet, and of course the lovely hard-working bee is one of our favourite designs here at The Sticker Factory, appearing on everything from stickers to stampers and praise notes. Bees play a very important role in our eco-systems, and are very interesting little critters (did you know, for example, that bees can recognize human faces?), so today we thought we’d try and make a buzz about a fantastic event which is helping us to ensure good bee health.
The Great British Bee Count is an annual event which monitors the health of our bees, giving us an important insight into the health of plants and wild spaces in general. Last year more than 16, 000 people took part in the bee count and recorded seeing more than 300, 000 bees. We think it’s a fantastic way to get your class out and taking part in nature, helping them develop scientific habits of observation and the interpretation of data, as well as making a real contribution to looking after these excellent insects. This year the count runs from 17th May until 30th June. You can have a look at the Great British Bee Count website to find out more and there’s also a free app which will help you identify the bees you’ve spotted as well lots of bee friendly hints and tips to make your garden bee-friendly. Bee-rilliant!
