Meet Vanessa - The Sticker FactoryMeet Vanessa: founder, director and sticker designer extraordinaire. She is The Sticker Factory. If there was a place called ‘sticker town’ she’d be the sheriff. We could go on, but point well made we think.

We sat down with Vanessa (like we do most days working in the size offices we do!) and had a chat about The Sticker Factory: it’s beginning, the inspiration behind it, life before it, what sticker she’d be if she had to be a sticker… It’s all pretty interesting stuff, so grab a cuppa and get to know us a little better. The conversation went a little something like this:

Ruth: (That’s me, the one writing this and asking all the questions. I know Vanessa like no one else. I should really, she’s my mum as well as my boss):

So what did you do before creating The Sticker Factory?

Vanessa:

You know that you wally!

Ruth:

Yes, but our lovely readers don’t, and I do love a good story.

Vanessa:

Ok, are you sitting comfortably? Once upon a time there was a lady called Vanessa. She had three children and a loving husband (he also works at The Sticker Factory by the way). She was a trained graphic designer, combining free-lance work and being a (nearly) full time mum by day, but by night she went by the name ‘Super V’ (we like a bit of poetic license).

Ruth:

Leading this busy double life, what gave you the idea to take things in a new direction and start The Sticker Factory?

Vanessa:

I’d been learning about computer graphics design programmes with the help of “Macs for Dummies” and was designing some small colourful characters. You would come home from school with reward stickers, and I preferred my creations to the ones on your stickers. I used my characters to create some sticker designs, and here we are now! I’m pleased to say that some of those early designs went onto become Sticker Factory best sellers: the pink dino, happy snail and very un-scary spider!

Ruth:

Ahh yes, that trusty old bulky mac and the days when The Sticker Factory was a few shelves in our conservatory. So how would you describe your role at The Sticker Factory?

Vanessa:

The boss lady! I develop new products and design most of them. I also oversee marketing and advertising, but as a director keep my eyes on all aspects of the business.

Ruth:

Very good boss. How would you describe The Sticker Factory?

Vanessa:

Full of stickers! It’s a very happy place to work. We’re surrounded by a brilliant bunch of people, there’s a lot of laughter and everyone cares about each other as well as providing a fantastic customer service.

Ruth:

Excellent stuff. Now here’s a question to make you think: how do you think your colleagues would describe you?

Vanessa:

That’s a difficult one… I hope as easy going and supportive. A bit forgetful though…I’ll often write a task on a post-it and stick it to myself as a reminder!

Ruth:

Let’s move away from stickers for a second: when you’re not at The Sticker Factory what do you like to do?

Vanessa:

All sorts, but at the moment I’m rediscovering my inner non-computer artist, a more hands on approach with paints, pens and ink.

Ruth:

Now back to stickers: if you had to be a sticker which one would you be and why?

Vanessa:

The happy snail! I try not to be in too much of a rush, but enjoy life with a cheerful attitude and a plodding I’ll-get-there-in-the-end philosophy.

Ruth:

Wonderful, thank you very much. Well that, ladies and gentlemen, concludes this little ramble. We hope you’ve enjoyed getting to know us a bit more, and stay tuned to our blog for all the latest Sticker Factory news. You can also visit our website, we’ve come a long way from the conservatory days!
