Did you know that August 19th is World Photo Day? It’s an annual event, held across the whole world. The date commemorates the invention of the daguerreotype, which was patented on August 19th 1839 and given by the French government as a gift “free to the world”.
The aim of the day is to celebrate the photograph in all of its glory and aims to inspire the sharing of different experiences, viewpoints and lives through the medium of photography; around the globe thousands of people are urged to share a single photo to “share their world with the world”.
Whether it’s with a zoom lens tripod supported super camera or simply your phone, everyone is encouraged to take a picture of whatever they wish (everyday life, landscapes, nature, plants, flowers, or anything) to share their story.
Over 11,500 photographers in 1342 cities in 111 countries have joined in with the day so far. We thought we’d get in on the action and and share a snap from our reward world.
Visit the World Photo Day website to view their amazing gallery of pictures from last year’s event and to find out more about the day. We’d love to see your best sticker snaps too. Share with us on our Facebook and Twitter pages. Happy snapping!
