October is International School Library month and we think it’s a brilliant time to show your school libraries, and school librarians, some love. Whatever size, whatever space, school libraries are a fantastic resource for learning, sharing, and celebrating the world around us, and a very important way to get children involved in reading and developing key academic skills.

The theme for this year is ‘Connecting communities and cultures’ and we think it’s a brilliant way to share with schools around the world. Originally started in America, ISLM is a brilliant way to share appreciation for your school librarian and to learn more about others. Some libraries are taking part in a bookmark exchange with libraries around the globe or making displays and skyping their counterparts to find out more about each other’s communities.

Visit the ISLM website to find out more about International School Library Month and to see how past ISLM months have been celebrated. Plus you can get your hands on some free resources including bookmarks, posters and maps. Whatever shape your celebrations take, we hope all of the hard-working librarians all over the world have a chance to celebrate school library month.
