October is International School Library month and we think it’s the perfect time to share our love for libraries, librarians and all things literary. School libraries are absolutely wonderful resources for supporting children to increase not only their knowledge and reading skills, but also to foster their creativity and imagination.
We know that not everyone is lucky enough to have a school library but we hope that this month will be an opportunity to spread the good word and inspire everyone to share a love of libraries.
The theme of this year’s celebrations is ‘Learn to Decode your World’. Many schools are taking part in a worldwide bookmark exchange to share their culture with others. The International School Library month website has resources including posters and bookmarks, head over there to find out more.
Plus you can visit our website to find a whole library of resources to help with any book based celebrations you’re planning. Design your own book themed bunting with our free printable DIY decorations, or check out our book based resources including bookmarks (which are a wonderful way to monitor and reward progress in reading). Plus have a look at our badges and charts; they’re ideal to use with our 10mm stickers for reading activities and can be used both in school and at home to make sure that everyone’s on the same page!
