How stickers and rewards can help aid communication between teachers, parents and children.

Owl sticker with the caption 'for excellence'People love to be praised and rewarded, it gives a great feeling of satisfaction and achievement. We believe stickers and other motivation products are an effective and time efficient resource for any teacher to reinforce praise, positive messages and aid in marking. Round, square, sparkly or smiley, they are great to give and even better to receive! Their value also goes beyond the immediate pleasure of receiving one.

We recognise the importance of three way communication between teachers, parents and guardians and children in encouraging and motivating children and so helping optimise their education. We live in a busy world, and often it’s hard to find enough time to communicate with everyone we need to, and when we do find time there’s not always enough of it. Parents evenings give the opportunity for parents and guardians to talk with teachers about their child’s progress, but on a daily basis it isn’t possible to tell every parent of every child if they have done well in English that day, been well behaved, or if they have homework to do that night.

It’s here that stickers and other motivation products such as certificates, praise notes and postcards can help. By rewarding a child with a sticker you’re not just showing them they’ve done a good piece of work or been really helpful, you’re sending a positive message home which shows their parents or guardians that they’ve achieved something good and you’ve recognised and rewarded them for it. They’ll be praised at home as well as at school and this can help positive behaviour and effort in and out of school. Stickers are also a great way to send messages home about homework or as a reminder, such as if someone has had a bump on the head.

Stickers and motivation products are certainly about rewarding great work, behaviour and giving reminders. Just as importantly they aid the communication between teachers, parents and guardians and children. They help everyone know what goes on on a daily and weekly basis and help things run a bit more smoothly. Long live the sticker!
