It’s nearly time to say goodbye to 2015, we hope it’s been a good year for you. We’re looking forward to welcoming 2016 for another fabulous year of stickers and rewards, and to celebrate we’ve had a dig around and found our favourite New Year’s Eve traditions from around the world.
First Footing: As soon as January 1st starts, wait behind your front door for a dark haired person to enter. The visitor should carry a piece of coal (to make sure the house stays warm), some bread (to make sure the house stays fed), money (to ensure a profitable year) and greenery (to guarantee a long life). They should then take a pan of ashes out of the house to signify the passing of the old year. This is a sure fire way to make sure the New Year starts off well.
Rabbits: This tradition hails from Yorkshire. As 2015 fades away you should repeat “black rabbits, black rabbits, black rabbits” over and over again. Then, as the New Year starts, say “white rabbits, white rabbits, white rabbits”. This will bring good luck, but may also result in a rabbit infestation.
Give a Calennig: In Wales it is traditional to present a calennig on New Year’s Eve. A calennig is an apple with three twig legs stuck into it, decorated with cloves and dried fruit. By placing it on a shelf good luck is assured throughout the year.
Whatever you’re up to this New Year’s Eve, whether you’ll be or waiting for a dark haired person to come round or rabbiting about rabbits, we hope you have a lovely time, and from all of us at The Sticker Factory, we hope you have a happy and healthy New Year. We’ll see you soon for more sticker news.
